How to write a CV

Fri 18 Jun 2010 13:42

"A CV is a sales tool, aimed at opening the door to an interview. Emphasise your POTENTIAL and SUITABILITY for the job - highlight your Technical skills set and most recent employment history."

Begin with your personal details first, followed by a mission statement

  • Follow this with a concise yet detailed synopsis of your current position and work chronologically backwards, keeping a full history evident. If there are gaps in your CV don't try and cover them up - be honest. There must be reasons. Gaps will create a feeling of dishonesty.
  • Remember the intention of the document is to sell yourself to a potential employer.

In order for a CV to be read fully, it should rarely be longer than 4 pages and to make the right impression it should be no shorter than 2 pages.
